BIGKIS-UPM Freshmen Welcome Statement
They say high school is the best chapter of one’s life. It’s true. But every chapter has an ending and this one is about to close. The journey in your lives must continue. And now, another exciting chapter begins. You are now officially an Iskolar.
This June, UP Manila’s new batch of first year students will enter the gates of the country’s premier state university. And this year, the new Iskolars para sa Bayan face a mission for them to accomplish.
The University of the Philippines was established with a vision to provide quality and competitive professionals for the country. True enough, our great university has produced the best people in different types of fields, most especially the health professions. But during the recent years, the number of health professionals in our country has dwindled, resulting from the exodus of Filipino health workers to other countries.
That is why, to fulfill and uphold the vision, UP Manila has implemented the Return Service Agreement among the health science courses to address this health crisis our country is facing. With the RSA, it can be ensured that there will be health workers whenever and wherever they are needed. The RSA is only enforced in UP Manila, but this little initiative of serving the country, first taken by the Iskolar para sa Bayan, can serve as an example for all other schools of health to follow suit.
BIGKIS-UPM calls on all the health science courses in UP Manila to look at the RSA as an opportunity to accomplish a very special mission: To fulfill the vision on why our university was established in the first place; The great vision of serving our country.
We also call on the other courses not covered by the RSA to also fulfill this mission. Because only in unity, can we truly uplift our nation. Lend your perspectives, your voices, your talents and your skills. Together let us further accomplish the mission and the vision of UP.
